Can anyone access services at CHIPS?
CHIPS is a full-time, full service, nonprofit health clinic serving the underserved and uninsured of all ages and all ethnic groups. No one is turned away because of inability to pay. Patients travel from all over Metropolitan St. Louis and outlying areas including Jefferson, Franklin and Warren counties to receive health care and social services at CHIPS’ North St. Louis clinic.
Do I need an appointment?
It is best if patients make an appointment by calling 314-652-9231, ext. 10. Occasionally a doctor may have a cancellation and can take a walk-in client, but this is rare. The clinic is open to visitors Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 to 5:00.
What type of care can I expect?
CHIPS health care and medical services are provided by volunteer physicians, nurses and dentists from the finest medical schools, hospitals and clinics in the region. Please refer to our Services page for a complete list of the services available at CHIPS.
What if I need more intensive services?
Patients who require more intensive services, up to and including hospitalization, are referred to other specialists and hospitals that have ongoing relationships with CHIPS.
If I am covered by Medicare or Medicaid, can I still come to CHIPS?
CHIPS is not a Medicare or Medicaid provider. CHIPS is not reimbursed by any insurance plans. Some Medicare/Medicaid patients do receive services at CHIPS because they cannot afford the deductibles charged by other clinics. However, CHIPS is not able to refer these insured patients for xrays and other tests that would normally be covered by Medicaid and Medicare.
Does CHIPS provide assistance with prescription medicines?
Yes. Patients that meet income requirements can receive assistance.
Will I see the same doctor each time?
Yes, unless rescheduling is necessary.
NOTICE: No agent is authorized to collect fees on behalf of CHIPS. You do not have to be referred for services by any agency.
